Ama is a Sanskrit word which means undigested or uncooked. Ama is undigested food produced in result of weak digestive fire - Agni.
When agni funtions properly, whatever we have eaten gets digested completely and absorbed into the body as nutrients and the rest of it expelled out of the body as waste products.
Due to external negative influences like stress, strain, adverse weather, inappropriate food and habits, agni becomes weakened or disturbed and therefore cannot digest food properly.
This undigested food and emotions turns into ama. It is a toxic, sticky, cloudy, smelly substance that can spread from the digestive tract to other parts of the body.
